hi! do you plan on running this event this year? i organize/run kalex week and i was thinking of doing another round soon, but i don’t want it to overlap with secret santa if that’s going to be happening c:

I had been meaning to make a post, and this is as good an opportunity as any to speak to this!

I will not be running the Secret Kalex Santa this year.

It's been an absolutely wonderful four(!) years running this event, and I'm so grateful to all the folks who have participated, pinch hit, and enjoyed the fics!! I have enjoyed reading everyone's fic over the years and have really appreciated the deadline as motivation to write more of my own too :)

That said, things have gotten pretty busy for me as of late, and I'm no longer able to maintain the time commitment. (And, as happens to most of us at some time or another, my heart has begun to move fandoms--for the moment at least).

So, that said, go forth with Kalex week! And thanks for asking.

This is a holiday fic exchange EXCLUSIVELY focused on romantic Kalex fic, with the option of Alex x Kara x (others) poly ships for those so inclined.

Minimum fic length is 1,000 words. Sign-ups are open until Saturday, October 23, 11:59 ET, and you will receive a “letter to Santa” including writing prompts within the following week (by Halloween at the latest)! The deadline to complete and submit your prompt is December 20.

Secret Santa reminder & how to post to the ao3 collection!

Friendly reminder that the Secret Santa is coming up, and works need to be posted to our ao3 collection by 11:59pm ET on December 20th!

How to post to the ao3 collection

1. Go to post a new work and get your fic all ready to go—fandom, title, summary, the works! (New to ao3 and not sure how to do that? Here’s a tutorial). Don’t post yet!

2. Before you post, click on the “associations” section. Under “Post to Collections / Challenges” start typing “secretkalexsanta2020″ and select it when it comes up.

3. In the “Gift this work to” field, start typing your giftee’s ao3 username and select it from the dropdown menu.

4. Post your work! It will stay hidden until the whole collection is revealed on December 25, so you can post it whenever you’re done. But please make sure to post it by December 20 at the latest!

5. Whoops, you’ve posted your work already and want to edit it? You can find it here—it will be the only work visible to you until the collection is revealed.

6. On the evening of December 24 or 25th, please log in and change the pub date of your work to December 24/25 then! There is no way to change a work’s pub date to a future date, so this is the best option for getting the pub date as close as possible to when the work is revealed/close to the top of the tag on ao3.

Hey! Quick question for you guys! If we are planning to do a fic that would end up being a multi chapter one, does the entire thing have to be finished by the cut off date?

Hi there! The rules of the Secret Santa are that a finished fic has to be posted by the cut off date. If you’d like to write a fic that will later have a sequel, that’s totally fine, but whatever gets posted by the cut off date must be able to be read as complete by then.
